Rosamond to speak at First Presbyterian in P’tree City

John Rosemond, child psychologist and nationally syndicated columnist, will speak on two popular topics, “Bringing out the Best in Children” and “Family Values,” Saturday, Nov. 1, at First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City. Morning and afternoon sessions are planned.

“Rosemond is one of the nation’s most popular speakers, says Donna Burgess, church spokesperson. “He is known for his humor, thought-provoking material, and easy engaging style.”

A full-time psychologist until 1990, Rosamond has since devoted his time to writing and speaking. The author of nine best-selling books on family values, Rosemond also relates his no-nonsense approach to child rearing in his column syndicated in more than 200 newspapers nationwide.

At the 10 a.m. morning session, Rosemond offers his thoughts on bringing out the best in children. His topic, “The Three R’s of Respect, Responsibility and Resourcefulness” is drawn both from his personal experience as a parent as well as from more than 20 years of counseling parents concerning school performance and classroom behavior.

At 1 p.m., Rosemond speaks on “The Frantic Family Syndrome” and its negative effect upon a family’s quality of life. He gives practical suggestions for restoring a context of timeless values to family living. Each presentation is approximately 90 minutes.

Rosemond describes himself as a “psychological archeologist.”

“I reach back years and years to how parents used to raise children, and now throw those ideas out for consideration,” he said. “I promote common sense.”
Rosemond’s own childhood was unsettled. His parents divorced when he was three. His mother remarried when he was seven, and his family life became characterized by his stepfather’s strict attitude. During high school, Rosemond went to live with his father. Today he is close to both parents.

Most of the year Rosemond is at Gastonia, N.C., at his Center for Affirmative Parenting, which sponsors workshops and other education presentations for parents and others who work with children.

Among Rosemond’s best-selling books are “Ending the Homework Hassle,” “Making the Terrible Two’s Terrific,” and “Six Point Plan for Raising a Happy, Healthy Child.”

Tickets are $10 per session, or $15 per session per couple, and may be purchased at First Presbyterian Church from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. weekdays, or at the door. Seating is limited.

First Presbyterian Church is off Hwy. 54 in Peachtree City. Turn on to Willowbend Road at the stop light near City Hall. First Presbyterian Church is the first building on the right.
