A Fayetteville man has recovered from serious injuries he received in an auto accident when his car was hit broadside by a sport utility vehicle.

Union City bank robber brought own bag to heist before death

The bank robber who died when he was shot by a police officer in Union City Tuesday morning bagged the cash himself in a small zippered bag he brought to the heist, according to an account of the robbery provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Police bust crime ring

A stakeout Tuesday morning for a couple caught on video robbing a vending machine has opened a wide-ranging investigation into a crime ring involving multiple burglaries and more than 70 thefts in the area along with several crystal meth labs, police said.

Fayetteville man dies in auto crash on Hwy. 85

A Fayetteville man died Friday morning after his SUV rolled over on Ga. Highway 85 south at Harp Road after it was hit by another car trying to cross the highway.
Richard Helmbold, 63, was severely injured in the collision, police said. He later died at Fayette Community Hospital, but two passengers in his 2002 Chevy Tahoe survived with non-life threatening injuries: Howard Eugene Belcher, 63, and Joe Belcher, 58, both of Fayetteville.

In a recent devotional reading in Our Daily Bread, Martin De Haan shared that a pigeon’s eyes cannot focus as it moves, so the bird actually has to bring its head to a complete stop between steps in order to refocus. It proceeds clumsily – head forward, stop, head back.

Get ready for what is coming from the “politically correct crowd.” Have you ever thought of what America would be like if these folks got into our government as the major political party? Have you ever imagined that “In God We Trust” and “One Nation Under God” would be under fire? In your wildest dreams did you ever think that taking out “One Nation under God” in our sacred pledge of allegiance would ever be questioned by our highest court in the land? Where are we anyway, Soviet Russia, 1960?

Class reunion

The MCHS Class of 1966 came together this past weekend in Warm Springs for the reunion of a lifetime. We normally get together every five years and it’s always fun, but something was different this time, and I suspect that the happy, unique success of our weekend had little, if anything, to do with human efforts.
