Notre Dame Glee Club Comes to Atlanta

All-male chorus to deliver a cappella program of sacred and secular music

Under the direction of Daniel C. Stowe, the University of Notre Dame Glee Club will perform a concert Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at Immaculate Heart Of Mary Catholic Church.

The Glee Club, one of the of the most renowned all-male choruses in the United States, will feature a program of a cappella works that surveys a broad range of music form Medieval works to contemporary compositions for male chorus. The group will be stopping in Atlanta as part of their 2003 Fall Tour.

The program delivered in each performance is always filled with variety that highlights the Glee Club’s scholasticism, musicianship, and dynamic control as an ensemble. “We want our audiences to receive an educational experience as well,” said Stowe.

The first half of the program typically features music from the Renaissance, Classical, and even Romantic eras. Sacred contemporary pieces may also be sung like Franz Biebl’s “Ave Maria” for double men’s chorus a signature piece of the Glee Club. The program continues with an exciting second half of folk songs, barbershop tunes, and African-American spirituals. Undoubtedly, the Glee Club will conclude its concert with the internationally recognized University fight song, “The Notre Dame Victory March.”

The rich history of the Notre Dame Glee Club spans 88 years. In the past four years, the group has performed in more than 20 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., under the direction of Stowe.

Three years ago the Glee Club was privileged to serve as the University’s musical ambassadors on a month-long tour of Asia. Most recently, the group traveled to Europe on a month-long, eight-country tour of the continent. The Glee Club had the privilege of singing in many major cathedrals throughout Europe.
