GHSA approves reclassifications for next year

Fayette’s intracounty athletic rivalries will have a slightly different look starting next fall, as the Georgia High School Association voted Monday to finalize new classifications for the 2004-05 school year.

Fayette County and Starr’s Mill remain in Region 4-AAAAA, along with East Coweta, Lovejoy, Mundy’s Mill, Newnan, and new member Union Grove from Henry County. McIntosh, however, is moving to Region 4-AAAA.

So while the Chiefs’ games against the Tigers and Panthers will not have the significance of being region contests, the other two schools in the county — Sandy Creek and Whitewater — will become region foes for McIntosh. Sandy Creek is already a member of 4-AAAA. Other region schools next year are Alexander, Chapel Hill, Creekside, Douglas County, Haralson County, Lithia Springs, Northgate, Villa Rica and Woodward.

Landmark Christian and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic, two local schools in Region 5-A, will stay there. They are joined next year by Atlanta International, Ben Franklin, Cathedral Academy, DeKalb Arts, Eagle’s Landing Christian, Galloway, Greenforest, Mt. Paran, Mt. Zion-Carroll, Southwest Atlanta Christian, St. Francis, W.D. Mohammed, Whitefield and Yeshiva.
