Postseason play starts this week

The road to Westminster, site of the state volleyball finals for all classifications, begins Thursday with area tournaments around the state.

Starr’s Mill will host the 4-AAAAA tournament tomorrow, Saturday and next Tuesday. Seventh-ranked McIntosh and Fayette County will be competing there.

Sandy Creek travels to Lithia Springs for the 4-AAAA tournament. The 5-A tournament, which includes fourth-ranked Landmark Christian and Our Lady of Mercy, also begins later this week.

State sectionals begin Oct. 25, with the top two seeds in each area participating at various sites depending upon the area finish. The top 4-AAAAA seed plays at Parkview in Gwinnett County, with the second seed going to St. Vincent’s in Savannah. The top 4-AAAA seed goes to Woodward, and the second seed to Riverwood. The top 5-A seed plays at Pace Academy, and the second seed at Darlington.

The Elite Eight in each class play Nov. 1 at Marietta (AAAAA), Marist (AAAA) and Holy Innocents (A). The championship and consolation matches in each division are Nov. 8 at Westminster in Atlanta.
