Target plans not in keeping with PTC

The time for you to stand up for the property rights of the citizens of Peachtree City is at hand. Please support rejection of the current Kedron Village Shopping Center Phase II site plan.
I know you are very aware of the numerous issues regarding the safety and traffic concerns that will result from the current plans for the Kedron Village Shopping Center expansion. The concerns are very real. One only has to see the results of the poor planning at the Wal-Mart Shopping Center to understand what we are talking about.
Allowing the same type of unchecked development directly adjacent to over 1,000 homeowners in the Kedron Village area is simply not in keeping with the village concept of Peachtree City. The Kedron Village Shopping Center is supposed be just that, a village shopping center. The current plans will result in a regional shopping center, with no respect for its neighbors.
The legal basis for this developer to be grandfathered under the big box ordinance is tenuous at best. Furthermore, to allow this developer to significantly increase the scope of this project past the initial site plan submittals is simply wrong. This is Peachtree City’s last chance to do the right thing and stop this type of unchecked development. It is worth a legal fight by the city and its citizens, if necessary, to force this developer to do the right thing.
With a little better engineering, this developer could create a model village shopping center. To date, the developer has taken the approach of “how can we make the most money from this site?” This developer has not even given serious consideration to improving traffic flow on Georgian Parkway. Nothing in the city ordinances states that the city must bend over backwards to help this developer make the maximum dollar per square foot.
Peachtree City is a special place. Please help us fight to keep it that way before it is too late.
Chris Downing, P.E.
Peachtree City, Ga.
