Safety with big
trucks a major concern
As a citizen of Peachtree City
I have serious concerns regarding the proposed development for the Kedron
Village Shopping Center, Phase II and Phase III. The safety and security
of the approximately 1,700 citizens living behind the Kedron Village Shopping
Center is one of the primary concerns I have.
The current design for the shopping center proposed that the main entrance
to the shopping center be off Georgian Park and in front of the only entrance
and exit into five residential subdivisions. Approximately 1,700 people
live off Georgian Park. The proposed development will substantially increase
traffic in this area. Georgian Park is a one-way road, each way, separated
by medians and because of the backup of traffic at Regents Park, emergency
response times would drop significantly if there were an emergency in
this neighborhood.
In addition, another safety issue is in regards to the truck traffic that
will be traveling on Georgian Park. The developer has indicated that the
Target store trucks will enter via the same entrance as the Kroger trucks
but he has not indicated where the remaining stores trucks will
be routed.
I have witnessed Kroger trucks using the wrong entrance and what makes
the city or developer think that Targets carrier will use the correct
entrance? Having been in the trucking business for many years, I can tell
you that carriers do not always go where they are supposed to go.
Over 1,000 children attend school near this development and many children
wait at bus stops off Georgian Parkway and Regents Park. Large trucks
making routine deliveries to this big development will be traveling on
these roads during times when children will be in the area. Do we really
want to expose our children to the increased danger and traffic?
