CRCT scores above state average

Results from the 2003 Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) have been released by the Georgia Department of Education and the figures show that Fulton County elementary and middle school students once again outperform their peers. Both Fulton's mean scale score and percent of students meeting or exceeding expectations remain above state averages at each grade level and subject tested.

The CRCT, introduced in 2000, measures how well students are learning the Georgia Quality Core Curriculum in the subject areas of reading, English/Language Arts, and math. Students in grades four, six, and eight were tested in Spring 2003.

In addition to surpassing the state's mean scale score, an exceptionally high number of Fulton students showed mastery of the curriculum. .

2003 Highlights

· At the elementary level, more than 80% of all students met or exceeded expectations in all subject areas.

· More than 75% of sixth and eighth grade students met or exceeded expectations in Language Arts and Mathematics.

· Middle school students performed extremely well in Reading. Eighty-eight percent of Fulton's sixth grade students, and 84% of eighth graders met or exceeded expectations in that subject.
