EMC celebrates members with fair

Last Saturday, Coweta-Fayette EMC hosted its fifth "On the Midway" member appreciation day. The country fair atmosphere attracted hundreds of members for the morning of fun.

Entire families came for the annual meeting to see who would take home this year's grand prizes - 10,000 kilowatts of electricity or 5,000 kilowatts of electricity, plus Relyco gave a BOSE wave radio.

Children lined up for their turn on the carousel and then went off to enjoy the Rock Climbing Wall, orbitron, spin out, and turbo tubs. ÊCotton candy, face painting and crafts were among the young people's favorite items again this year. Also on the agenda for the first time ever was bingo for the adults. ÊThere was a multitude of presents just waiting to be won by some lucky member. Adults were also able to visit exhibits that included products from Relyco Resources like pagers, security and Bose.

Members could sign up to purchase "Green Power" and give a helping hand towards aiding our environment. ÊWind, solar and hydropower are all possibilities of green power, but biomass (which uses methane gas generated at landfills) is already available today and will be used first to generate the new green power. ÊIt is being sold in 150 kilowatt hour blocks for $4.00 a block.

Also on hand was the EMCs newest subsidiary, Coweta-Fayette EMC Natural Gas. Members were allowed to sign-up to participate in the newly formed company, if they hadn't already done so. ÊEmployees were available to answer there questions and give them that special attention that's not always possible with the larger gas companies.

Members received a gardening bag filled with all the needed gardening tools as their special registration gift. By simply answering a survey, members were also eligible to win $100 off their electric bill. ÊThe Fox Brothers, a nationally known "country gospel" band entertained the crowd before and during the business meeting.

The three incumbents to the board of directors, W.L. Clements, Coweta County, Alice Mallory, Fayette County and Mildred Winkles, Coweta County were re-elected to serve another 3 year term.

Members were excited when their names were drawn for valuable gifts throughout the business meeting; their children were also excited upon winning gift certificates from local merchants and book bags from Southern Mills.

Coweta-Fayette EMC has served Coweta, Fayette and parts of Heard, Meriwether, Spalding, Clayton and south Fulton counties for almost 57 years.
