Special olympic auction successful A special auction was held during intermission of the Hall & Oates concerts at Frederick Brown, Jr. Amphitheater Sept. 26-27. The auctions benefited the Fayette County Special Olympics program. Two acoustic guitars, which had been donated, by Music and Art Center located in The Avenue Peachtree City had been autographed by every performer in the Webb, Lindsey and Wade Summer Concert Series I and Series II. These performers included Eddie Money, The Pointer Sisters, Village People, Doobie Brothers, Bobby Rydell, Pat Benatar, Peter Frampton, Wayne Newton, Micky Dolenz, Darryl Hall and John Oates. To further enhance their value, we included an album of pictures of each performer as they were signing each guitar for authenticity purposes. "The auctions were fantastic on both nights! On Friday, Sept. 26 Donna O'Kelly of Donna O'Kelly Realtors, Inc. won the bid with $3,100; on Saturday, Sept. 27 Geoff and Diane Stone of Metalforming, Inc. won the bid with $5,700," said amphitheater director Donna Romeo. "Both nights Jennifer Bowen kept the bids rising as she pursued the purchase of at least one of the two guitars, but to no avail. It is so exciting to have two local companies give so much to a wonderful local organization such as the Fayette County Special Olympics." The Amphitheater staff, including Joel Dunnington, Jessica Romeo, Julie Rushin, Peggy Schnitzer, Judi Rutherford and Michael Crofton have all worked very hard this entire season to make this auction a success. Bill McDonald once again did a terrific job as auctioneer. For more information about the Fayette County Special Olympics program or to volunteer, call Anita Godbee at 770-461-9714.
