Local rivals face off on court Several local teams squared off against one another last week on the volleyball court. Starrs Mill: The Lady Panthers began the week by hosting Fayette County and Mundys Mill in area competition, and the home team defeated both visitors in three straight games: 25-12, 25-9, 25-6 over Fayette County; 25-8, 25-11, 25-8 over Mundys Mill. The Lady Panthers traveled to Landmark Christian Thursday and lost two matches against top-10 opponents: No. 9 Riverwood (25-20, 25-23) and No. 3 Landmark (25-21, 25-19). Starrs Mill is now 22-7 overall on the season. McIntosh: An undefeated week for the Lady Chiefs, now ranked fifth in the state, included a pair of home matches Sept. 23, as they beat Newnan and Riverdale in successive three-game sweeps. Saturday was a busy day with three matches at Parkview, and the Lady Chiefs won in two straight over MLK, Parkview and South Gwinnett. The Parkview win avenged a loss earlier in the season, one of only four McIntosh has suffered in 2003.
