PTC's official position

I wanted to provide some additional information following receipt of the e-mail below, on which Mr. Schlosser copied me. For the record, the mayor and council unanimously passed a resolution of support for the project on Sept. 5, 2002, and then unanimously voted to approve $170,000 in funding for the project on Feb. 6, 2003.

Otherwise, neither Mayor Brown nor any member of the City Council have been involved in this project.

As noted in the Sept. 24 issue of The Citizen, staff forwarded the construction plans to county staff in mid-August, well before any elected county official or citizen began commenting on the delay.

The city manager and city attorney have also been looking at some of the legal aspects regarding the four acres of property owned by Pathway Communities. Also as noted in the article, a land swap between the city and Pathway Communities has been verbally proposed; however, as a government agency, the city must abide by strict legal requirements regarding the disposal of public property. McMullen and Meeker expect to finalize the right-of-way discussions in the very near future.

I respectfully request that this information be included in any articles following up on Mr. Schlosser's claims, or, should the letter below run in the paper, that this correspondence be placed with it.

Betsy Tyler

Public Information Officer/Deputy City Clerk

Peachtree City, Ga.
