The Fayette County Recreation Department is looking for dependable scorekeepers who want to earn extra money for a fun job. Needed for Monday through Thursday, 7-10 p.m. Evening schedule typically consists of three games per night. Learn the rules of basketball, softball and more. Call 770-461-9714 for more information.

The Peachtree City Lacrosse Association will again have Box Lacrosse for players age 10 through high school, for both boys and girls, starting in November.The program will be a non-checking developmental league where players will learn the fundamentals of passing, catching, scooping, and cradling.You can get more details and sign up at the Kedron Field House Sept. 27 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.For more information visit www.etamz.com/ptclaxclub.

The Fayette County Youth Softball Association will hold its annual board meeting and election of officers and directors Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. at the Fayette County Recreation Activities House at the Kiwanis Field at 108 Old Senoia Road. Nominations will be accepted from the floor.

Former Atlanta Falcons player and current game color commentator Jeff Van Note is the keynote speaker for the Whitewater High School athletic booster club's luncheon schedule for Saturday, Sept. 27, at noon at Christ Church @ Whitewater, 1577 Highway 85 south in Fayetteville. Reserved seating is available. Tickets are $10 per person in advance or $15 at the door while available. Lunch will be included with each ticket purchased. There will also be a raffle for various items, including choice seats to a Falcons game. The Peachtree City Hockey Association announces open stick times and tryout dates for all players interested in the select, middle school and high school teams. For 10-under Select, open stick time is Thursday, Oct. 2, 5-6:30 p.m. and tryouts are Thursday, Oct. 9, at the same time. For middle school, open stick time is Thursday, Sept. 18, 5:30-7:30 p.m. and tryouts are Thursday, Sept. 25, at that same time. High school open stick and tryouts are Sept. 18 and 25 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Any players who are not current members of the PHA for the fall 2003 season must have a parent present, fill out a weekend warrior registration form and pay the USA Hockey fee of $10 at both open stick time and tryout, or they have the option of paying the USA Hockey yearly membership fee of $25. First Baptist Church of Jonesboro's youth basketball league is open to players ages 3-17 with registration weekdays 9 a.m-4 p.m. from Oct. 1-Nov. 15. Cost is $10 for three- and four-year-olds and $45 for all others. Any child 5-17 years of age who did not participate in the league last year must sign up either Oct. 25 or Nov. 1 from 9 a.m.-noon so that he or she can be evaluated. Knights of Columbus Council 8081 in Peachtree City will host its second annual golf tournament Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Orchard Hills Golf Club in Newnan. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Field of Hope for handicapped children in Fayette County. Cost is $65 per player, plus mulligans and raffle tickets for door prizes. The Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department is offering pickup basketball games and open gym time each Wednesday in October from 7-9 p.m. at the East Fayette gym. The Soccer Centre in Fayetteville announces registration for Winter Indoor Youth Soccer. There will be leagues for boys and girls from Under 6 (muppets) through Under 19 boys and High School Girls. Teams will be placed in divisions for recreation or competitive (Classic, Athena, and Challenge) teams. Individual registrations will be accepted for Under 6 through Under 14 players. Pee Wee Tennis, sponsored by the Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department, is designed to introduce children to the game of tennis in a fun and rewarding way by tailoring the equipment and size of the playing court to the size, needs and athletic ability of young children. This program will allow them to learn tennis quickly and have fun doing it. Session II is each Tuesday in October, and Session III is each Tuesday in November, from 6-6:45 p.m. at the Kiwanis Center. Open to ages 4-7. Cost is $25 per session.

The Soccer Centre in Fayetteville will host a soccer camp Friday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. for full-day campers from ages 7 through 14. Campers as well as Muppets (ages 4-6) can also select the half-day camp from 9 a.m. until noon. Oct. 17 is a Fayette County Schools staff development day. The camp will be run by AFC Lightning coaches, all of whom have National USSF licenses and have played college and/or professional soccer. The Peachtree City Running Club is accepting applications for the 22nd running of the Peachtree City Classic road race, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18. The event consists of three separate races run on three separate courses that morning. The 15K open race (9.3 miles) starts at 9:10 a.m. and is limited to the first 1,500 applicants. This course was voted best 15K course in Georgia by Georgia Athlete magazine, and the Road Runners Club of America has designated this race as its 15K national championship. The men's 5K (3.1 miles) starts are 8:50 a.m. and the women's 5K begins at 9 a.m. These races are limited to 800 applicants apiece. Fitness walkers are welcome in these 5K events. All three courses start and finish at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater on McIntosh Trail in Peachtree City and are being electronically timed using ChampionChip chips. The races are run mostly on paved golf cart paths that take the runners through the wooded greenbelt areas of Peachtree City, past lakes and ponds, across bridges, and through short tunnels. All finishers receive the traditional Classic sweatshirt. Awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers, overall and in the masters division. In addition, age group awards will be presented to the top three finishers, male and female, in each of 14 age group categories. The race weekend starts with a running and fitness expo Friday, Oct. 17, from 5-9 p.m. at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center. The expo is free and open to the public.

In All-Star Karate, sponsored by the Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department, world champion Tony Young offers an exciting way to learn the ancient art of karate, which focuses on basic and easy techniques for self-defense, confidence, discipline and physical fitness. The next sesssion begins Oct. 29 and is each Wednesday until Dec. 3 from 5:45-6:30 p.m. at the Kiwanis Center. Open to ages 5 and up. Cost is $110 per session.

SouthSide Pioneers Track & Field Club is looking for any eligible athletes (ages 7 and up, including Masters athletes) interested in becoming part of a new local cross-country program in the Fayetteville area. Youth athletes (ages 7-18) will compete locally in a quest to qualify for the 2003 National Cross-Country Junior Olympics Dec. 14 in Albuquerque, N.M., while all other athletes will compete at the National Club Cross-Country Championships in Dec. 7 in North Carolina. Open tryouts and registration for the Team USA Junior Olympic 14-under fastpitch squad is underway. All team members are required to obtain weekly private instruction, maintain an independent weekly workout schedule and attend team practices/tournaments 3 weekends per month. Lightning Soccer Club is still accepting registrations for its Academy Program's fall season. The program, for ages 8-11, is geared toward developing basic skills and a love for soccer. Professional coaches give the players quality instruction during the two practices per week and at the games each Saturday. Practices are organized and intensive skill development is mixed with fun games. Travel and expense are kept to a minimum with all games in the Atlanta area. The Lightning Academy program, in its fourth year, was used as the model for the Georgia Youth Soccer Association three years ago. The Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a variety of athletic programs for the fall months of 2003, including speed training, karate, weightlifting, aerobics, water aerobics, shotgunning, cheerleading, tennis, golf lessons, baton, boxing, and kickboxing. In addition to these athletic programs, which cater to all different ages, there will also be an Open Gym for interested participants. Registration for these athletic programs has already begun, so it is important to visit the Recreation Department to register for the program(s) of your choice. Sept. 1 is the first day for several of the programs, so be sure not to miss out.
