Coweta's Christ the King Church plans weekend dedicated to healing, training, prayer Sept. 26-28

The Rev. Canon Mark Pearson of New Hampshire will lead a weekend of healing, training and prayer at Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church in Coweta County Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26 and 27. Pearson's wife, Dr. Mary Grace Pearson, a physician and president of New Creation Healing Center, also will speak at Sunday morning services, Sept. 28, at 8 and 10 a.m.

The weekend will be totally dedicated to the ministry of healing and the public is invited to attend all sessions except Saturday afternoon when a special session will be held for clergy, commissioned and licensed lay ministers, and persons who are interested in being on the healing ministry team at Christ the King. There is no charge for any of the events.

The weekend begins Friday, Sept. 26, with teaching at 7:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. On Saturday morning, the teaching sessions begin at 9 a.m. and, following a lunch break, the special session for clergy, lay ministers and others interested in joining the healing ministry team will be held.

The highlight and focus of the weekend will be the community-wide healing service at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27.

"Anyone who is sick or in need of any type healing is welcome and encouraged to attend," said the Rev. Canon David Epps, pastor of Christ the King. "There are no promises, no fees, and no strings attached. While we certainly can make no guarantees since all healing is up to God, the people in our church have witnessed some extraordinary 'recoveries' of desperately ill people over the last two or three years."

The ministry of healing is a thoroughly Biblical concept, Epps continued. "Elements of this emphasis are seen in the Old Testament and Jesus was vitally concerned with the total healing body, mind, emotions, and spirit of those to whom he ministered. The Apostles and those who followed them continued in this ministry. Long before Oral Roberts came on the scene, the ancient church was anointing people and praying for the sick."

Pearson, the ministry program's leader for the weekend, is president of the Institute of Christian Renewal and the pastor of Trinity Church in Plaistow, N.H. He has written several books, including Christian Healing, and serves as a visiting instructor at Barrington College and Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry. He holds degrees from Williams College, Oxford University and Boston University.

In 1986, Pearson was named an honorary canon in the Episcopal Church U.S.A. for his international work in healing and renewal. Currently, he serves as Canon Missioner for the Northeast Diocese of the Charismatic Episcopal Church and teaches courses for St. Michael's Seminary.

Christ the King is at 4881 Ga. Hwy. 34 East, between Newnan and Peachtree City. For more information, call 770-252-2428.
