With realistic prices, Shadows' recipes live on at new location

As one of the owners of Mike and C's, I felt that a response was in order in regards to "Restaurant's passing leaves dark shadow" [Letters, The Citizen, Sept. 17].

We appreciate your loyalty to Shadows and understand how hard it is to let go. We had Shadows for 16 wonderful years. At the time we sold it, the stock market was doing great and retirement looked promising. Unfortunately, after three months we were eager to get back into the business but couldn't get Shadows back. Mike and C's came two and a half years after selling Shadows.

We wanted our new restaurant to serve breakfast, so we designed the menu with the same items Shadows had. The products we use are the same: hashbrowns, cheese, bell peppers, pancake batter, syrup, etc. The half-size order of hashbrowns is exactly that, a half-order. You were given a full-size order at Shadows for half the price. That was one of the problems Shadows had and is no longer in business.

When the bigger chain restaurants cane to Peachtree City, we could not compete. We felt the concept had to change and that's why Mike and C's has TVs, games, and a fun atmosphere. We added the bookshelf because we had customers who asked if we had read any good books. Our shelf is filled with our favorites and our customers are welcome to borrow them.

We are sorry Shadows had to close but for us running two restaurants was impossible. We love our location and new concept. We hope that one day you will give us another try.

Mike and Kathy Healy
