There are lots of ways you might know Collin Kelley. Chief among them is the time he spent at the Fayette Neighbor.

Kelley has since left that publication behind and is now a published playwright, poet and novelist. He is managing editor for Atlanta Intown magazine by day but frequents poetry and open-mic events by night. This Friday, Kelley will join the Jennifer Perry Combo at the Fayette County Public Library for an evening of jazz and poetry.

Kelley's poetry has been published in a number of publications, including "The Pedestal," "Welter," "Alternative Arts and Literature" and "Sophomore Jinx" among others. He also created two spoken word performances "Poems for Conquering Venus" and "Two Voices" for WREK's program "Advise and Dissent." "Conquering Venus" is also the name of Kelley's first novel and he is currently hard at work on his second novel.

Adding to Kelley's busy schedule are a number of appearances in and around the metro Atlanta area. promoting his book of poetry, "Better to Travel." In August he was the Fayetteville Barnes and Noble's featured poet. Recently he has appeared at the Alternative Arts Festival, Intervals at Horizon Theatre and a signing at the Georgia Tech Barnes and Noble. After Friday's performance at the library, Kelley will appear at the Sept. 25 Peachtree Highway book shop, Chandler Park, for Night of 100 authors; Pages at Phipps for the Atlanta Literary Festival Sept. 28; and an appearance as featured poet for the Georgia Poetry Society at North Georgia College Oct. 18.

The Jennifer Perry Combo was nominated for a Grammy for Best Jazz Song a while back. Kelley met Perry at a local performance and the two became fast friends. This September, they have been performoing together. The Jennifer Perry Combo will perform classics like "Cry Me A River," "Fever," "To Hell With Love," and "Black Coffee" and there is talk of a spoken word/jazz album in their future.
