County teams high in state rankings

A couple of local teams have secured choice spots in the latest coaches polls released Monday.

The Starr’s Mill Lady Panthers have moved into the No. 2 spot in the state AAAAA rankings, behind Kell. The Fayette County Lady Tigers are right behind them at No. 3.

Our Lady of Mercy: The Lady Bobcats won 12-5 Thursday over Heard County. Brittani Scott was 3-4 with a double and 2 runs. Marina Fleming was 2-3 with a triple, 2 runs, and a RBI.

That game followed a 6-5 loss to Landmark Sept. 9. Brittani Scott, Leah Kearns, and Robyn Keuler each had 2 hits.

Landmark: Ashley Chastain struck out 16 batters in the win over Our Lady of Mercy, and followed that up with 13 strikeouts in last Wednesday’s 4-3 loss to Whitefield. The Lady War Eagles are now 1-1 in region play.
