Landmark wins East-West

The Lady War Eagles of Landmark Christian, now ranked No. 2 in the state, improved to 21-5 on the season by winning the East-West Tournament in Cobb County over the weekend, defeating six other ranked teams along the way.

Teams that fell victim to Landmark included St. Vincent’s, McIntosh, Milton, Sequoyah, Walton, Riverwood, and unranked Kennesaw Mountain.

Starr’s Mill: Out of more than 30 teams, some of which came from as far away as Savannah, the Lady Panthers secured a top-eight finish in last weekend’s East-West Tournament which concluded Saturday at Kennesaw Mountain High.

In the first round Thursday, the Lady Panthers defeated Chattahoochee 25-12, 25-23. They followed that up the same day with a 25-11, 25-14 win over Lakeside, earning Gold Pool standings in the second round of the tournament.

The Lady Panthers returned to action Saturday morning against Kell and won by scores of 25-20 and 25-8. That was followed by a match against state-ranked Lassiter, and another win in two straight games (25-22, 25-13) to reach the top eight.

The tournament ended for Starr’s Mill with a best-of-three loss to Kennesaw Mountain (22-25, 25-23, 8-15), but the top-eight finish was the best in the Lady Panthers’ history and improved their season record to 19-4 going into yesterday’s match against McIntosh. Starr’s Mill is ranked 13th in the state.

McIntosh: In a busy week that included the East-West Tournament, the Lady Chiefs moved to 22-4 on the season and a No. 5 state ranking going into yesterday’s Starr’s Mill match. They beat Fayette County in two straight games Sept. 9 and picked up wins over Northview, Marietta and Harrison, each in two straight. The Lady Chiefs’ two losses last week were to teams ranked above them — two of three games to St. Vincent’s and two straight to Landmark.

Sandy Creek: The Lady Patriots beat Chapel Hill three out of four (25-19, 25-14, 21-25, 25-21) early last week and also beat Northgate in three straight games (25-10, 25-13, 25-15). Both matches were in region play.

Last Thursday, Sandy Creek won twice at home, beating Lithia Springs (25-9, 25-6 0 and Eagle’s Landing (25-7, 25-18).
