Brooks resident set to open for Dolenz

Allen Goodman and his band have a fairly busy schedule these days.

Not only is the band opening for Micky Dolenz at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater this weekend but their calendar has also been filled with performances at the Wyndham Executive Conference Center and Hangar 74 in Peachtree City, working with Grammy-winning producer Larry Butler and seeking original songs to record.

Goodman, a Starr's Mill graduate and resident of Brooks, spends his days working for Atlanta Beverage and spends his nights and weekends pursuing a career in music. He plays the keyboards while his bandmates are Larry Bowen on bass and lead vocals, Darwin Conart on lead guitar and Andy Thomaco on drums. Goodman has been playing with Bowen since he was 14 years old. The band has built a fan base in the Southeast that grows with each performance.

Goodman hopes to find success in Nashville one day and he is currently going through the slow process of finding and recording original material. If you are an aspiring songwriter and have material you think might be right for Goodman, who plays a mix of old-time honky-tonk rock and roll and country, e-mail goodmana@bellsouth.net or phone 770-716-7200.

Goodman also wishes to express his appreciation to the opening act committee and amphitheater director Donna Romeo for the opportunity to open a show this weekend. The Allen Goodman Band will perform at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
