Air Show returns this weekend

Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! Yep, it's a plane.

Hundreds of planes will be in the area this weekend for the sixth annual Great Georgia Air Show at Falcon Field in Peachtree City. The show has been a major attraction for local residents as well as aircarft afficionados from all over the nation. The Great Georgia Air Show features an amazing array of aeronautical wizardry each afternoon from 1-5 p.m., as well as a display of World War II aircraft to peruse and possibly even fly in.

Among the attractions this year are the F-16 Fighting Falcon, the F-15 and F-18 demonstration teams, aerobatic performances from the Hawker Seafury and the AT-6, the comedy stylings of Otto the Helicopter, wing walking on Gene Soucy's Showcat, the Flying Farmer and his Piper Cub, a launch and flyby of 30 WWII aircraft, heritage flights of the P-51 and the F-15, Walter Addison Linscott in his Yak-55 and Steve Coan performing sailplane aerobatics.

Also on hand at this year's show will be the Chevy Jet Truck, which goes from 0-334 mph within a half mile. Other aircraft at this year's show will be the F-117 Nighthawk, the P-51 D Mustang, th B-17 Flying Fortress, the Japanese "Kate," the PBY Catalina, the AC-47 Gun Ship, the PT-17 Stearman, the F-18 Horne, the Hawker Sea Fury, the C-45 Expeditorand the SBD Dauntless. Delta Airplanes will also have the Hisoric "Ship 41" DC-3, the Travel Air 6B Sedan and the CRJ 200.

The gates open at 9 a.m. and visitors are allowed to peruse the WWII aircraft on display as well as an art show, participate in rock climbing, visit the Kid Port area and fly in a selection of the aircraft at the show. Parking is free at Starr's Mill High School and free shuttle service to the air show will be provided. Handicap and golf cart parking are availabe at Falcon Field.

Tickets to the show can be purchased in advance at www.ticketweb.com for $10 for adults and$5 for children ages 6-12. Tickets at the gate are $13 for adults and $7 for children ages 6-12. All proceeds benefit the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City and the Dixe Wing Historical Preservation and Education Programs.
