Newnan Presbyterian gears up for anniversary

Guest ministers, a Scottish kirkin', complete with a bagpiper, a chimes concert and the annual outdoor church picnic, will highlight a September of celebration for Newnan Presbyterian Church as the congregation celebrates the institution's 175th anniversary.

Among the highlights of the month will be guest sermons from Dr. Tom Long, professor of homiletics at Candler School of Theology (Sept. 14) and Dr. Lamar Potts, a son of Newnan Presbyterian and retired pastor of Spring Valley Presbyterian Church (Sept. 21).

The celebration will culminate with a worship service incorporating a "kirkin' o' the tartans" ceremony on Sept. 28, preceded by a presentation by William Harris of the St. Andrews Society and a processional led by a Scottish bagpiper and drummer. Following the Sept. 28 service, a congregational photo will be taken to commemorate the milestone anniversary.

For more information on services and details on costs and reservations for the Wednesday family night suppers, call the church office, 770-253-4405.
