No lie: FCFT presents "Pinochio" this weekend

One of the most important lessons a young person can learn is to always tell the truth. It is important to remember that if one lies, there are consequences, such as your nose growing with each untruth spoken and the loss of the chance to become a real boy.

O.K., so that only happens when Pinochio lies, but it is an important lesson nonetheless. This lesson will be reinforced when Fayette Coweta Family Theatre presents "Pinochio" at Spring Hill Elementary School in Fayetteville this Thursday through Sunday.

"Pinochio" is a wooden puppet (Dillon Roseen) created by a lonely old puppetmaker named Gepetto (Andrew Bezek). One night the Blue Fairy (Jillian Profeta) makes Pinochio come to life and has an insect with a heart of gold and a strong moral compass named Jimmy Cricket (Katy Wilson) keep Pinochio company and also out of trouble. While Jimmy Cricket tries his best, Pinochio gets into some mischief. It is only when he realizes his mistakes and learns about loyalty to friends and loved ones and telling the truth that Pinochio becomes a real boy.

Fayette Coweta Family Theatre's production features a huge cast, beautiful costumes and lots of laughs, music and adventure. There will also be a Pleasure Island Party for the audience after each show. "Pinochio" was adapted by Fayette Coweta Family Theatre member Gayann Truelove and has been performed around the nation. The show runs 75 minutes and is appropriate for every member of the family.

Performances are at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, 3 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $6 in advance and $7 at the door. Advance tickets are available at the Peachtree City and Fayetteville libraries, Shenanigan's Toys in Peachtree City, by phone at 770-251-7611 or at www.fcft.net/PinnochioPro.

If you've got no strings holding you down this weekend, check out "Pinochio."
