Lady Chiefs win softball opener
The McIntosh Lady Chiefs opened the 2003 season at Lovejoy with a 3-1 win over the Lady Wildcats. Senior Lily Yarbrough was the winning pitcher, with freshman Amelia Beach doing the catching in her first varsity game. Yarbrough struck out 9 batters in 7 innings with no walks and no earned runs, giving up 3 hits. Seniors Kristy Cline at first base, Jordan Wiegele as shortstop, and Jenna Gilbert at third base, along with sophomore Kelsey Dawson on second base, rounded out the infield. Seniors Kim Bevillard, Kim Dickens, and freshman Jocelyn Clarke made up the outfield. Offensively, the Lady Chiefs knocked out eight hits against the Wildcats. Bevillard, Cline, and Gilbert had two hits each and Wiegele and Beach added one. Bevillard and Dickens each drove in runs. The Lady Chiefs are coached by Kristy Lewis, who is new to McIntosh this year, and assisted by Toby Black. Starr's Mill: It was three wins in three days last week for the Lady Panthers, who raised their record to 7-1 on the season with a 2-1 victory Aug. 19 over Brookwood in eight innings, a 3-0 win last Wednesday against Newnan, and a 2-0 win Thursday over Stockbridge. The Newnan game was the first region contest of the season. Our Lady of Mercy: The season got underway for the Lady Bobcats last Wednesday, as they lost 12-1 to St. Francis in a nonregion game.
