Justify that $106,000
salary for assistant city manager
There are some facts that are so well known that everyone recognizes them. One is that our country is suffering with money problems. Local governments have fewer funds for operating and are faced with the choice of either raising taxes or reducing services. In Peachtree City, we are told that our City Council had been working hard to minimize our sacrifices. They have arrived at a budget that requires only a small increase in taxes and minimal reduction of services. We should be well pleased. There is a glitch, however. A new city position has been created and must be funded. Why now? Why do we need an assistant city manager who receives a salary of $106,000? The city manager has been on the job only a very short time. One would assume his salary is greater than $106,000. That is a great deal of money to pay someone who now claims he isn't able to do his job without help. Why not? It has been done by one person for quite some time. Most cities of our size have one city manager. We certainly do not need an assistant and I begin to wonder if we have the right man for the job. If you agree, please let City Hall know at 770-487-7657. Bonnie R. Mullikin Peachtree City
