Jr. Master Gardener program starts this fall

Does you child enjoy digging in the dirt, playing with worms, eating insects or picking your neighbor's flowers? If so, he or she sounds like a candidate for an exciting new program offered by the Fayette County Extension Service, the Junior Master Gardener program.

This program is open to current fourth- and fifth-graders and will meet the first and third Thursday of every month beginning in October from 4-6 p.m. at the Fayette County Extension Service, Suite 209A, 140 Stonewall Ave., Fayetteville. Staff member, assisted by trained volunteers will introduce your child to plant growth and development, soils and water, ecology, insects, diseases and more, using age appropriate, hands-on activities. Some examples are Gas Gobblers, The Hamburger Plant and Coconut Float.

The registration deadline is Aug. 30. Stop by the Extension Service office for an application or phone 770-460-5730 ext. 5412 for more information.
