Lady Tigers win tourney

Fayette County: The Lady Tigers began defense of their AAAAA state title in fine fashion, winning the Gold Medal Division of the Jordan tournament in Columbus this past weekend with a 4-1 record.

Ashley Pedersen was the winning pitcher in the 6-0 victory over Northside, giving up no hits and one walk. Ashley Holcombe, Becky Carder and Stefanie Norman each had two hits and drove in a run.

Caroline Teubl pitched a two-hitter in a 5-0 win over Woodward, with Holcombe drilling a two-run homer as part of a three-hit game and Carder picking up two hits and two RBI.

The Lady Tigers' only loss of the weekend came 3-2 against Kennesaw Mountain, although Pedersen struck out three. Norman had two hits, as did Alison Keller, and each drove in a run. Norman and Holcombe had key defensive plays in the game.

The team came back with a 3-1 win over Oconee County, with Teubl getting the win and Pedersen the save. Norman, Michelle Deyton and Tori Owen drove in the team's runs.

Pedersen was the winner in the 8-3 victory over Columbus, bolstered by two hits apiece from herself, Holcombe, Norman, Erica Owen and Katie Gaspierik. Keller drove in three runs.

Coach Jill Joiner cited the team for outstanding defense throughout the weekend, especially Holcombe, Norman, Carder and Gaspeierik.

Starr's Mill: A 4-1 record was good enough for third place in the Jordan tournament in Columbus. Three teams were tied Saturday and the results were decided by run differential, Lady Panthers Coach Mark Williamson said.

The team won a pair of games Friday 2-0 over Hardaway and 3-0 over North Cobb and lost 2-1 to Stockbridge. Saturday's wins were over Lowndes (3-1) and Walton (5-0).

Lynsey Tedford led the team with a .417 average, followed by Jennilee Huddleston at .385 with three RBI. Brittany Matthews pitched 11 innings, giving up no runs and allowing only one hit. Jacki Jones pitched six innings, giving up two hits and no earned runs.
