Can't get through
to school officials about bus safety
I read the article [on school bus route changes] and I wanted to let you know that the story is not only in Peachtree City. It's in Fayetteville also. I have sent e-mails each day this week to Mr. Fred Oliver at the Board of Education and Pam Holt at the transportation department asking for justification and a change. From front to back of my subdivision is only 0.4 of a mile [but] they are asking that [my child] be picked up and dropped off at the entrance to our subdivision which is on Ga. Highway 54 in Fayetteville. I feel as though I have gone through the proper channels. Yet as of [Friday] I have not heard one thing in response to my complaints. Not even a return to say that they have received my e-mails and are or will be looking into the issue. And I'm really tired of hearing on the news from them about sidewalks and cart paths. Sidewalks and cart paths do not keep children safe while walking to school or bus stops. And my complaint is not the actual walk, it's where they want my child to walk to and stand.: The corner of Hwy. 54 as traffic flies by at speeds that I know are in excess of 60 mph. Do I really want my middle school child standing on a street corner by herself. Have they not considered the fact that children are abducted in this country daily? I for one do not want to have to get that call. And what call would that be? The schools don't call when a child is out. I would find out around 4 p.m. in the afternoon when she didn't call me after getting home from school. I am not allowing her to stand there. I am driving and sitting with her. This though is causing me to be late to work. I will work it out though, because she won't be standing on that corner! Deana Ferraiuolo Fayetteville, Ga.
