Police estimate a golf cart was traveling between 30 and 40 miles per hour when it careened out of control, flipped and struck a tree last Friday afternoon near McIntosh High School, seriously injuring the driver and also hurting two passengers.

The driver, Krystal Leann Pitts of Peachtree City, was discharged from Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta Wednesday, according to officials.

The owner of the golf cart, Ronnie L. Gonzales of Peachtree City has been charged with allowing another person to violate a state law for letting his daughter, Priscilla Gonzales, 15, drive the golf cart without a license, police said. Pitts was driving the cart when the crash occurred, just after she and Gonzales switched places, police said.

Pitts was driving too fast down the hill on the cart path between Walt Banks Road and Stevens Entry, according to a detailed police report on the incident. She has been charged with reckless driving and driving a golf cart without a license.

Priscilla Gonzales has been charged with driving a golf cart without a license, police said. Gonzales told officers that she originally drove the cart before allowing Pitts to drive, according to the police report.

Both Priscilla Gonzales and another passenger, Jordan Davis, 16, were injured, according to police. Priscilla Gonzales was originally unconscious on the scene but was later released from the hospital and Davis was suffered a cut to his head, the report stated.

Priscilla Gonzales' brother, Ronny Gonzales, 7, was also in the cart at the time of the accident but he was uninjured, according to the report.

The golf cart's brakes were tested on the scene and found to be working properly, according to the report.
