Regional transportation on CIA agenda

The Coweta Intergovernmental Association will tackle the thorny issue of transportation next Wednesday.

Senoia City Administrator Murray McAfee said Senoia Mayor and president of the group Dianne Cleveland will lead a discussion on regional transportation issues at the 4 p.m. meeting at the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce.

"There will also be representatives from the Atlanta Regional Commission at the meeting," McAfee said.

McAfee has been working with leaders from Peachtree City, Fairburn and Fulton County on trying to get a handle on development on Ga. Highway 74, and believes the Coweta group is just beginning to get a handle on intergovernmental cooperation.

"All of these issues affect everybody from the School Board to Senoia," he said.

The CIA emerged as an idea at the spring retreat of Coweta's government leaders in Athens.

McAfee said transportation is just one of the issues leaders hope to deal with from an intergovernmental aspect.

"With the growth in the area, more and more issues will keep emerging," he said.
