Cart drivers just
like any other: Get a license first
I have worked in Peachtree City for over 10 years and lived in Peachtree City for the past three years. I have always wondered how you could drive a golf cart on the streets without a driver's license. Now that the court has ruled that you can't, it amazes me of all the people that keep complaining about the law being changed. Actually the correct law wasn't changed, it's just that now the people that live in Peachtree City are finding out that the state law applies to them also. The law has always been that you have to have a driver's license to operate a motor vehicle on a federal-, state-, county- or city-maintained public highway, road, street or path. I guess the feeling is that since we live in Peachtree City we are better than people that live in other places. Come on, wake up and get a grip on the real world. Even as a kid growing up during the summer when I would spend weeks at my grandparents in Heard County and most of the roads were dirt roads, you couldn't drive a motor vehicle on them without a driver's license. The law when it reads "motor vehicle" doesn't just apply to gas-powered motors. Stop complaining while you're still ahead. At this time you're not required to have insurance or a tag that you have to pay taxes on every year. At least I for one know that I'm no better than anyone else just because I live in Peachtree City and that I must obey the same laws as anyone else in this country. Ricky Smith Peachtree City, Ga.
