Pick up a good book

Summer reading can prevent problems for all seasons

There are still some lazy days of summer left for lounging with a good book. Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Atlanta suggests that consumers add a financial education book to their summer reading list. A new Book Referrals section in the Money$marts Center of www.cccsinc.org lists some excellent choices.

"Many books are available with valuable consumer information from how to craft a spending plan to the best investments strategies for college tuition or retirement," CCCS President Suzanne Boas said. "Why not learn something to better your financial life along with solving the latest mystery or enjoying the newest best seller?"

CCCS recommends summer readers use the local library, a discount bookstore or order through the new Book Referrals section of www.cccsinc.org.

Packed with useful tips, these CCCS book suggestions make helpful, pleasurable summer reading:

"Get Clark Smart," Clark Howard and Mark Meltzer.

"50 Simple Things You Can Do To Improve Your Personal Finances," Ilyce Glink.

"Making the Most of your Money," Jane Bryant Quinn.

"Life or Debt: A One-Week Plan for a Lifetime of Financial Freedom," Stacy Johnson.

"The Complete Idiot's Guide to Managing Your Money," Robert Heady, Christy Heady and Jody Schaeffer.

"The Laws of Money, The Lessons of Life: Keep What You Have and Create What You Deserve," Suze Orman.

"Debt-Proof Living," Mary Hunt.

"The Family Financial Workbook: A Practical Guide to Budgeting," Larry Burkett.
