Second meeting of Southern Crescent Toastmasters at CCSU tomorrowThe Southern Crescent Toastmasters Club will have its second official meeting tomorrow at the Harry S. Downs Center for Continuing Education at Clayton College & State University in Morrow. The meeting will run from noon until 1 p.m. and will be held in room 203 of the Downs Center. At the last meeting, three officers were appointed, and club members got a real taste of how Toastmasters meetings are conducted and what the purpose of the club is. There were no "Icebreaker" speeches, but three members participated in "Table Topics" speeches, impromptu speeches that take one to two minutes and are based on specific words chosen and assigned by the Table Topics master. At the next meeting, more officers will be announced and appointed. The initial slate of officers will serve until the club is off and running, hopefully by Oct. 1, at which time there will be a formal process of calling for nominations and electing officers during a club meeting. There has been considerable interest in the club and current members are looking forward to Thursday's meeting in anticipation of welcoming new members. This effort is expected to bring the current membership enrollment from 16 to 20 plus, the number required to charter with Toastmasters International. Southern Crescent Toastmasters is open to anyone interested in becoming a better speaker and learning leadership skills. Founding membership dues are only $34, which includes the Toastmasters kit and Communications and Leadership Program manual. If interested, contact Hassan Amin, interim vice president of membership, at toastmasters@mail.clayton.edu, or John Kosky, interim president, at johnkosky@mail.clayton.edu.
