PTC's Braelinn Kroger to lose driver's license facility

The driver's license renewal center at the Braelinn Village Kroger in Peachtree City will close for good Thursday, Aug. 21.

That leaves the driver's license office on McElroy Road in Fayetteville as the only option for drivers wishing to renew their licenses in person.

The Peachtree City Kroger is one of eight stores in the state which will shutter its license renewal bureaus, according to the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicle Safety.

The closing of the Kroger bureaus is blamed partly on the need to return the license examiners to permanent customer service centers and partly because of the stores' remodeling plans.

The locations had experienced a steady decrease in customers since the opening of large facilities in Cobb, DeKalb and Gwinnett counties, the DMVS said. Also, driver's licenses can now be renewed over the Internet, by mail and by telephone, officials said.

The Fayetteville driver's license office is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
