Girl, 15, in intensive care after PTC golf cart wreck By JOHN MUNFORD
A youth remained in hospital intensive care Tuesday after a golf cart careened out of control and hit a tree near McIntosh High School, injuring two other passengers, police said. One of the victims was trapped under the golf cart and received several fractures, said Police Chief James Murray. The crash, which occurred between Walt Banks Road and Stevens Entry, tore the roof off the golf cart and "banged it up pretty good," Murray noted. The cart was being driven by a 15-year-old girl with another 15-year-old girl in the front passenger seat and a 16-year-old male and a 7-year-old male in the back seat, Murray said. The cart was traveling down a hill when the driver lost control and it left the cart path, Murray said. The cart then flipped and struck the tree, he added. The cart path has a bend near the bottom of the hill which is where the driver apparently lost control, Murray added. Police declined to name the juveniles, saying the investigation had not yet concluded. It is expected the names will be released once the accident report is completed, police said. Charges have not been filed yet, but the driver will likely face charges for driving a golf cart without a license under the new interpretation of a state law that requires a driver's license to operate golf carts, Murray said. Two of the victims were transported to the hospital by a medical helicopter while another victim was taken by ambulance, said Assistant Fire Chief Ed Eiswerth. All but one have been released from medical care, officials said.
