Local group seeking to fund nonprofits

haritable organizations in Fayette County have the opportunity to apply for grants to advance their good works.

The Community Foundation for Fayette County, a local fund of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, is accepting applications from nonprofit organization for grants to fund various community needs within the county.

Organizations must be recognized as nonprofit entities with 501 c (3) status, provide programs and services to the residents of Fayette County, and have not received a prior grant from The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. Grant applications will be accepted through October 15, 2003.

Nonprofit organizations in Fayette County will be able to get an inside track on attracting more dollars to their organizations. The Community Foundation for Fayette County will sponsor a half-day workshop August 18 at the Fayette County YMCA Lodge, 215 Huiet Road, in Fayetteville. The cost of the workshop is $25 per person or $20 for additional attendees from same organization.

David Gibbs, senior program officer for The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, will give perspective on what The Community Foundation looks for in grant proposals. Becky Carter, certified fundraising executive and noted fundraising consultant, will also be on hand. Carter, the author of "How to Raise the Money You Need Now!," will explore how to raise money in difficult times. For more information call 770-487-9030.

The Community Foundation for Fayette County is one of seven local funds (regional funds) of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, one of metro Atlanta's leading philanthropic organizations, manages and administers the philanthropy for 650 individuals and their families by matching their charitable interests with critical community needs. Last year, the Community Foundation awarded $31 million to more than 1,600 nonprofits in 22 metro counties.
