Free cholesterol seminars offered this month

Fulton County adults age 55 and older can learn how to control cholesterol and prevent heart attacks and strokes by attending free workshops August 12-13, 2003, at the county's four multipurpose facilities.

Renowned cardiologist Dr. Sidney Alexander of Tufts University, Burlington, Mass., will speak on "The Importance of Cholesterol Management in the Senior Population" August 13 at 10 a.m., at the H. J. C. Bowden Senior Multipurpose Facility, 2885 Church Street, East Point.

Dr. Alexander is director of the Lipid Clinic at Lahey Medical Center at Tufts. Lipids are food fats that play a major role in artery blockages, which can lead to heart attacks and strokes.

The workshops are part of a year-long health monitoring program, "Taking Health to Heart," conducted by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and the Fulton County Human Services Department's Office of Aging.
