Fayette soap box racer competes at nationals Whitney Daniel of Fayetteville competed recently in the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio, after winning the Super Stock division at the Georgia Regional Soap Box Derby in McDonough. She competed with 185 cars in the national race. After winning her first heat with a time of 29.05 seconds, she lost in the second round to a competitor from Washington, D.C. Brandon Piper of McDonough also qualified locally for the national race. The competition in Akron included local winners representing 43 states and five foreign countries. The McDonough race in June included 28 cars from five local counties. Other local winners included Kathelyn Jarvis, sponsoring by Jarvis Trucking in Locust Grove, finishing second in the Stock division, and Chris Jackson of Stockbridge, sponsored by Bennett Motor Express, placing second in the Super Stock division. The Kiwanis Club of Stockbridge runs the local Georgia Regional Soap Box Derby competition, which is open to racers ages 8-17. The local racing is licensed by the All-American Soap Box Derby and adheres to the rules and regulations of the national All-American Association. This year marks the 66th running of the All-American Soap Box Derby.
