Seminoles win 10-under World Series The 10-u Georgia Seminoles traveled to Henderson, Nev., last month to and came back home with the championship in the 10-under USSSA Major World Series. Forty-two of the top teams in the United States played in this event. The Seminoles defeated The Power Alley Slam from Texas, The Lake Jackson Blaze from Texas, The Lincoln Rebels from Nebraska, The Germantown Giants from Tennessee and The Corona Yankees from California. In the semifinal game, the Seminoles beat the North Alabama Vipers 8-0 in 4 innings. Facing the only unbeaten team left in the tournament in the championship game, the Fayette squad downed The Texas Stars 11-3, again in only 4 innings, to win the 2003 10-under USSSA Major national championship. Kyle Bradford, Jonathan Richey, Brett Casteel, Julius Gaines, Carson Bowers, Marsalis Holloway, Kevin Cosper and Delino DeShields represented the Seminoles on the All-Tournament Team. Kevin Cosper won the Outstanding Offensive Player Award, ending the tournament with a batting average of .571. He also recorded 5 sacrifice bunts, 5 stolen bases and a team-leading 24 putouts from his 2nd base position. Delino DeShields was the tournament's Most Valuable Player, hitting .640 with 4 home runs and 15 RBI. Delino also recorded 17 putouts at third base. The Seminoles finished the 2003 season with a record of 63-9-1. Along with their national championship, they won the 10-under USSSA State Tournament, The 10-under NBC State Tournament, The 2nd Annual Seminoles Challenge, The Georgia Peach League Championship Tournament, The 2nd Annual Hank Aaron Tournament, The Coca-Cola Early Bird Tournament in Mississippi and the East Cobb USSSA World Series Qualifying Tournament. The Seminoles are currently ranked the #1 10-year-old team in the country by USA Sports Ranking.com.
