Myers named Coach of the Year
Jamey Myers, head coach of the Southern Crescent Aquatic team, has been named 2003 Senior Coach of the Year by Georgia Swimming. Georgia Swimming is one of 59 Local Swimming Committees that make up USA Swimming, the governing body for U.S. Olympic swimming. Myers was honored at the Georgia All Star Ceremony July 19. In his first year with SCAT, Myers' swimmers are excelling on the state, regional, and national level. On the state level, SCAT finished fifth overall and had four individual state champions at Senior States. Fourteen swimmers on his team were named as Georgia All Stars for the 2002-2003 Long Course/Short Course combined season. On the regional level, he has coached one Senior Sectional Champion and seven swimmers who finished in the top eight at Senior Sectionals. Two swimmers have just been named to the 2003 Georgia Zone Team and are competing in the Southern Zone Championships in Ft. Lauderdale at the end of this month. Myers is a National Team Staff Member of the National Swim Coaches' Association. His swimmers earned nine top-8 finishes at Junior Nationals this year, three junior national championships, and one junior national record. He has coached two swimmers who finished third and fourth in the U.S.A. 25K Open Water National Championships, earning a national title for SCAT. In addition, two of his swimmers will head to the University of Maryland this August to compete in the U.S.A. Swimming National Championships. He has accomplished this with a small team of about 100 swimmers. Myers has more than 10 years of coaching experience. He has coached high school All-Americans along with national and Olympic champions. He is a former All-American and world-ranked swimmer with national and international experience. Before coming to SCAT, he was the head coach and owner of Georgia Coastal Aquatic Team in Savannah.
