Fayette drivers continue to perform well

The 2003 Thursday Thunder season is roaring along at a deafening pace. Last week's double features and double points have engaged the Fayette County drivers in a heated points competition.

Jonathan Chandler, 13, of Fayetteville finished third in the Moore Machinery Movers Young Guns division in week six and remains third in points. Jonathan earned a season-best finish of second in week three and has an average finish of sixth place this season. He has earned four top-5 finishes this season.

Matt Cox, 13, of Fayetteville finished fifth in the Legends Chargers division in weeks five and six, his best finishes this season. He finished ninth last week. Matt jumped from 15th to tenth in points and has an average finish of tenth place.

Michael Herrington, 34, of Tyrone did not compete last week, dropping him from ninth to 13th in the points standings. Michael earned a best finish of seventh place in week four and has an average finish of 11th place this season.

Doug Ludwig, 18, of Fayetteville finished fourth in the Legends Pro division in weeks five and six and finished second last week, relinquishing the points lead to Doug Stevens. Doug earned wins in weeks three and four. He has an average finish of third this season and has earned a top-5 finish in each of the races in which he has competed.

Trey Maughan of Fayetteville finished second for the second week in a row in the Moore Machinery Movers Young Guns division in week six and remains the points leader. Having earned wins in both weeks three and four, Trey maintains an average finish of second place. He has earned a top-3 finish in each of the races in which he has competed this season.

Robert Mowery of Fayetteville finished 13th in the Moore Machinery Movers Bandolero Young Guns division in week six and is ninth in points. Robert finished tenth in weeks one and three, his best finishes this season. He has an average finish of 12th place in his first season competing in the Thursday Thunder series.

Bre Sharp, 12, of Fayetteville finished 12th in the Moore Machinery Movers Bandolero Young Guns division in week six, dropping from fifth to seventh in the points standings. Bre enjoyed a finish of fourth in week two, her best finish this season. Having earned two top-5 finishes this season, she has an average finish of eighth place.

Racing resumes this Thursday at 6 p.m. at Atlanta Motor Speedway's Thunder Ring, the quarter-mile track situated along the frontstretch. Our fans will get revved up this week for an intermission filled with lawnmower racing presented by Z93.

Thursday Thunder tickets can be purchased the evening of the race at Gate 13 (located on the front of the property running parallel to Hwy 19/41).
