How does a romantic dinner with beautiful music sound? If it sounds good, you may want to call and make reservations for dinner at City Cafe this Thursday evening for the "Music with Friends" program.

The friends in the program are Amy and Randy Chaffin, Cynthia Van Wert and Bill Killmeier. These four performers have musical backgrounds and perform a mixture of different forms of music. In addition to these four performers, the Rick Massengale trio will provided the dinner music.

The Chaffins both attended McNeese State in Lake Charles, La. Amy has been a guest soloist for the Louisiana Masterworks Chorale and also performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Robert Shaw.

Currently a music teacher in the Henry County School System and the Children's Choir Director for the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, Amy has also performed with the Henry Players in a number of musicals. She is also a member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir with her husband, Randy.

Randy attended McNeese State as an instrumental major but later studied voice at Clayton State University. He has performed with the Camelot Theatre in Griffin as well as the Henry Players in a number of their musicals.

Van Wert was born in Nazareth, raised in Israel and is the daughter of Baptist Missionaries. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree at Eastern Kentucky University and a Master's of Music degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. While in Knoxville, Van Wert was awarded the Mary Costa Opera Scholarship and was chosen to be an apprentice with the Knoxville Opera Company. She has been a Fayette County resident for 11 years and teaches voice privately.

Killmeier grew up in Marietta and now resides in Newnan. He graduated from Westminster Choir College in Princeton and was selected as soloist and member of the United States Army Band and Chorus (Pershing's Own).

After his enlistment in the Army, Killmeier enjoyed a 10-year career in Germany where he performed as a full-time soloist for a number of theaters, performing over 50 leading operatic roles. He will return to Germany this year to play the role of Amonsaro in Verdi's "Aida." In 2004, he will perform the role of Sharpless in Atlanta Opera's production of Puccini's "Madame Butterfly." Killmeier is also the co-author of "Auditioning in the 21st Century," an essential handbook for those auditioning for and working in the German speaking theater "fest" system.

The "Music with Friends" program will feature performances of favorites from American musicals and Operettas as well as selections from Andrew Lloyd Webber. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. and will feature a choice of four entrees: Pasta Primavera with chicken or shrimp for $36, Chicken breast stuffed with broccoli and cheese served with sherry cream sauce for $38, Pan fried salmon with leeks and lemon butter sauce for $38 or Filet Mignon served with shitake mushroom sauce for $42.
