Brief manhunt leads to forgery arrest on bad check caseA homeless man was arrested Thursday afternoon after bolting from a lawman investigating a bad check report at a gas station on Ga. Highway 85 north, police said. Gene Lawrence Harris, 47, was apprehended by sheriff's officials after he managed to briefly elude capture. The helicopter unit of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department assisted in the search along with other deputies and detectives on the ground. Deputies were originally called to the BP gas station on Ga. Highway 85 north at 1:45 p.m., on a report that Harris tried to cash a bad check for $50, according to police. Harris was charged with forgery, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and giving a false name to a law enforcement officer. John Munford
