Seniors to learn safety, fraud protection at free seminar The Fayetteville Police Department and Heritage Bank will present a series of free seminars targeted at safety for senior citizens beginning Thursday, Aug. 7. The educational sessions will cover topics such as protecting finances, crime prevention and general safety and awareness. One of the sessions will focus on protecting seniors from financial exploitation and will be conducted by elder law attorney Victoria L. Collier of the law firm Collier&Collins, LLP. That session will kick off the seminars with a "lunch and learn" session at the community room of the bank's Fayetteville branch at 440 North Jeff Davis Dr. The other seminars, which will be conducted by the police department, will also be at the bank's community service room Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 from 9 to 11 a.m. One will touch on telemarketing fraud, con artists and mail fraud; the other will cover home and travel safety along with shopping safety tips and hands-on self defense instruction.
