Water district seeks comments on draft plans

The Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District, created to develop plans, policies and local model ordinances to protect water quality and public water supplies, protect recreational values of rivers and lakes and minimize the adverse impact of development on waters in and downstream of the 16-county district, has released three draft plans for public comment.

The plans address district-wide watershed management, long-term wastewater management and water supply and water conservation management.

District counties include Bartow, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Forsyth, Gwinnett Hall, Henry, Paulding, Rockdale and Walton.

The district seeks comments from the public on the plans and will host seven open houses to provide the public with details about the plans and give them the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback at seven open houses. One open house will take place at the Peachtree City Water and Sewage Authority Wednesday, July 16, from 5:30-8 p.m. The deadline for comments is Aug. 6.

The draft plans are available on the district Web site at www.northgeorgiawater.org.
