East Fayette store robbed at knifepoint; cash, Lotto tix taken By JOHN

Fayette County sheriff's detectives are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at an east Fayette convenience store Tuesday afternoon. No one was hurt when the incident occurred at 3:45 p.m. at the Jackson General Store on Ga. Highway 54 East at Corinth Road, said Sgt. Belinda McCastle of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. One of the suspects entered the store and brandished a hunting knife while disguising his face with a black bandana just below his eyes, McCastle said. That suspect, a black male, was described as roughly 6-feet-1-inch, 240-250 pounds wearing a black T-shirt and grey sweatpants. McCastle said. A second suspect entered the store during the robbery, his face covered with an oblong Halloween mask, but he only looked around the store and left before the first suspect, McCastle said. The second suspect, who was unarmed, was described as a black male with a slender build, she added. All told, $500 in cash was taken along with about 30 "Jumbo Bucks" lottery tickets valued at $5 each and some cigars, McCastle said. Both men left the store on foot, McCastle added. Prior to the robbery, a witness saw a black four-door BMW 3 Series vehicle drop off two black males in the Millers Oak Way subdivision just behind the store, McCastle said. The store was equipped with a video surveillance system and detectives are still investigating the case, McCastle said Thursday morning.
