Holiday events scheduled for Lake Martin When you're planning your family's Fourth of July festivities, don't forget to include some fireworks! Russell Lands, Inc., invites everyone to enjoy July Fourth on Lake Martin with the Southeast's largest fireworks show. The 3rd annual free fireworks show, which is scheduled for Friday, July 4, at 9 p.m. is sure to be the biggest and best ever. A musical show will begin at 4 p.m. with five bands performing, and proceeds from the concert ticket sales benefiting Children's Harbor. Those not wishing to attend the concert can watch the fireworks show from boat or in the open field free of charge at the Lake Martin Amphitheater where the event will be held. The Russell Lands Fourth of July Blast will be an enjoyable and entertaining event for people of all ages. The fireworks show, which is free to everyone, is the largest fireworks show in the Southeast, according to Pyrotechnics, the company that sets up and discharges the half-hour long patriotic light show. With many spectacular colors, shapes and sounds, the fireworks display is a beautiful and moving display that will definitely make onlookers not only proud to be an American, but also proud that an event of this magnitude is right outside their backdoors. The display will be fired from the northern shore of the amphitheater, so anywhere in the amphitheater field will be a front-row seat! As in times past, the awesome display will be visible from most locations in the Kowaliga area. And to complete the evening, five bands are lined up to provide a rocking good time for the entire family. Muse will begin the event at 4 p.m. with their unique blend of acoustics. At 5 p.m. Montgomery's Ray Goss will take the stage. Alexander City band Shades of Blue will entertain with their upbeat versions of classics from the '50s to the '80s at 6 p.m. Another Montgomery band, Dr. Feelgood, will perform at 7 p.m. Dr. Feelgood is well known for fun, danceable music ranging from the '50s to present times. Headliners for the 3rd Annual Russell Lands Fourth of July Blast is Montgomery's own Sweet Young'uns, who will take the stage at 8:30, break for the fireworks at 9, then perform again after the fireworks show is finished. And to provide even more entertainment for the young (and young at heart), Children's Harbor will have short programs between sets. These programs will include a variety of games and a short musical puppet show. Russell Lands began sponsoring the fireworks show three years ago, after agreeing to continue Montgomery's Red Blount's tradition of the Fourth of July fireworks. Rather than see an end to this now historic event, Russell Lands continues to provide $50,000 in cash and in-kind support for the show. Advanced tickets for the benefit concert are $10 and can be purchased at Aliant Bank, Auburn Bank, Children's Harbor, Eastdale Mall Information Booth, First National Bank of Sylacauga, Kowaliga Marina, Our Town Country Cupboard, Peoples Bank of Tallassee, Real Island Marina, The Ridge Marina, River North Marina, all locations Russell Do it Center, Russell Lands, Inc., Kowaliga and Vaughn Road Sinclair's. Tickets at the gate will be $15 and children under 12 are free. Gates will open at 3 p.m., so bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy great music and a Russell Lands fireworks show that is sure to bring wonderful memories! Concessions will be provided by Collegiate Deli and Buffalo Rock. The Lake Martin Amphitheater is located on Highway 63 about 1 mile south of Kowaliga Bridge. From Highway 280 in Alexander City, take Hwy. 63 South approximately 16 miles. No boat traffic will be allowed to or from the amphitheater shoreline - access is by car only. Access to the large amphitheater park field will be free all along Highway 63. The park is 1.5 miles south of Kowaliga Bridge. Come early to Lake Martin Amphitheater on the Fourth, bring blankets or chairs, friends and family and enjoy the holiday Russell Lands style.
