'Battle of the Bands' July 12 The Peachtree City Youth Council ironed out details for their premiere event, The Battle of the Bands, recently at the home of spokesperson Shelby Barker. The group finalized their promotional flier and the design of their signature T-shirt. They divvied up tickets and devised a marketing plan, which basically consists of blanketing the city with fliers and selling tickets in various locations throughout Peachtree City. A resounding cheer erupted when Mayor Brown called confirming that Union City Hummer agreed to provide a Hummer to transport the group in this year's Peachtree City Fourth of July parade. The Battle of the Bands, intended to attract Peachtree City teenagers, will be held Saturday, July 12, at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater from 7-10:30 p.m. It will give PTCYC an opportunity to formally introduce themselves to Peachtree City's youth, while offering a chance for camaraderie among peers and a venue for listening to some great music. Featured bands will include Chopper John, Gravel Undertone, Ardency, Fairborn, and Antioch. Atlanta-based radio station 99X will have a van present at the event, providing giveaways and music between sets. Tickets are now on sale in advance for $3 at Back Stage Music, Deli Delicious, the Peachtree City Library, the Kedron Field House and the Peachtree City Recreation Department. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $5. Fayetteville's Tinseltown Movie Theater has donated free movie tickets as giveaway prizes. PTCYC is still open to receiving more prize donations and will be happy to provide promotional support to any companies interested in sponsoring this event. Other sponsors include The Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater; former mayor Bob Lenox; dentist Dr. Tim Kaigler; City Attorney Ted Meeker; City Council members Annie McMenamin, Murray Weed and Dan Tennant; and the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce's Elissa Hall. PTCYC is extremely grateful to these sponsors for their contributions, which make this event possible. Deli Delicious will handle concessions at the event and are considering adapting their menu to better suit the discernable palates of teenagers. Foods such as nachos, fries, chicken strips, sodas and candy may be the fare. PTCYC came together as a result of the "Youth and Adults Working Together to Build Community" study sessions that commenced this past January. Please contact Shelby Barker at 770-631-7712 if you would like to sponsor this event, have questions regarding the Battle of the Bands or would like to inquire about PTCYC. Teens: Come on out, listen to some great music and have a whole lot of fun.
