Pioneers gear up for AAU nationals

Several members of the Southside Pioneers track team advanced to the 2003 AAU National Championships later this month in Michigan by placing in the top four in their events at last weekend's AAU Regional Championships in South Carolina.

Listed below are results from the regional meet, with those placing fourth or higher advancing to nationals.

Tina Williams finished first in the 200-meter and 400-meter runs in the Primary Girls division.

In the Bantam Girls division, Lisa Williams placed second in the 1500-meter run and fifth in the 800-meter run.

Najee Pace was fourth in the running long jump in the Sub-Midget division.

Other contenders included Trenton Edwards in Midget Boys shot put.

Meanwhile, other members of the team competed last weekend at the 2003 Ernest Dixon Invitational meet in Atlanta. Here are some of the results from that meet.

Youth girls shot put: Tyra West, second.

Youth girls discus throw: Tyra West, first.

Intermediate girls 100-meter dash: Charmeikka Glover, seventh.

Intermediate girls 200-meter dash: Nina Moore, ninth; Charmeikka Glover, eleventh.

Intermediate girls 400-meter dash: Nina Moore, fourth; Nicole Mathis, seventh.

Intermediate girls 4x100-meter relay: Pioneers 'A', second.

Intermediate girls 4x400-meter relay: Pioneers 'A', third.

Intermediate girls long jump: Mellany Stanislaus, first.

Intermediate girls triple jump: Mellany Stanislaus, second.

Intermediate girls shot put: Nicole Mathis, second.

Midget boys 100-meter dash: Joel Stanislaus, sixth.

Midget boys long jump: Joel Stanislaus, second.

Intermediate boys 100-meter dash: Kiwannee Mitchell, second.

Intermediate boys 200-meter dash: Kiwannee Mitchell, sixth.

Young men 200-meter dash: Nathenial Whetstone, seventh.

Young men long jump: Quinta Starr, second.
