Inviting backyard birds to the barden

The fluttering, sweeping, diving movements of backyard birds enliven gardens in a special way. It is hard to imagine a garden without them. Birds also provide beautiful flashes of color and a repertoire of sound, complementing the atmosphere of even the simplest garden.

Audrey Harrelson of Birds Unlimited, speaking at the July 8 meeting of the Backyard Association, will teach participants how to optimize the garden for a healthy and diverse population of birds. Attend the meeting and learn how to entice birds to your garden, blending plants, bird houses and bird feeders. Participants will receive information reviewing special types of feeders and sources of food which attract various species of birds.

The Backyard Association, sponsored by Coweta County Extension Service, is open to the public and meets at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday evening of each month except December. Reservations are required and admission is free. The sessions are held at the Coweta County Extension Service, 21 East Washington Street in Newnan. For more information, contact 770-254-2620.
