Summertime solutions to backyard dilemmas

He wants you to remember the delight of a summer campfire. Sitting around with your friends and family. Listening to children chatter. He wants to bring your neighbors with you.

And he wants it all in your backyard.

"A firepit, once it's in and paid for requires no upkeep," said Russ Robinson, one of three co-owners of Outback Yardworks. "It's a family and friend gathering place. Kids can roast marshmallows. Adults can talk and gaze at the starts. It's a campsite atmosphere, and you don't have to go anywhere."

Outback Yardworks opened last November and has been delivering quality mulch, stone, and other ground cover since. "Our hot sellers are sod, cypress mulch and Tumblesafe, which is a good for playgrounds or any home with children playing in the yard," said Robinson.

The firepits are a natural extension of the business.

"We have good people, including a rock mason, on staff," said Robinson. "Keith Held can build dry stack walls without mortar."

It's the people that set Outback Yardworks out front. "The customer is number one," said Robinson. "We want to give the customer what they need with good customer service. We deliver a good product at a good price."

One good product, Robinson found locally at a Sharpsburg craft fair. Outback Yardworks now carries Amish swings, rockers, gliders for outdoor and indoor use. "They are handbuilt by the Amish and guaranteed for life."

"The rose arbor swings are made out of cedar, the only wood that can be left outside. They're perfect for a screened porch or in a living room," said Robinson. "A piece of this quality at the furniture store would cost $400-$700. Here we've got them starting at $250."

The quality of the Amish gliders is self-evident, a curved wooden seat more comfortable than some with a cushion. Rich, smooth finish on the handcrafted wood hearkens back to an easier, simpler day.

For Robinson and his partners, faith and business are married. "We want to build a success," he said. "We put it in the Lord's hands and let him build it. He's opened doors for us. He takes care of us.

"We're worth the drive from Fayette County. If you walk in on a Monday or a Friday, you'll get the same cheerful service from us," he concluded.

Outback Yardworks is in Sharpsburg, at the corner of Ga. Highway 154 and Lower Fayetteville Road. From Fayette County, take Ga. Highway 54 toward Newnan. Continue on Ga. Highway 34 to Thomas Crossoads. Turn left on Hwy. 154 and right at the first stoplight. Outback Yardworks is on the corner on the left.
